Bank Swift Code

I have made a couple times  some money transfer to indonesia from australia using commonwealth bank or st.george bank. Usually I always go to the branch to make the telegraphic transfer, but lately i found out that they charge more expensive if you do the telegraphic transfer from the branch counter. Just for example, it will cost you around $20 if you use stgeorge bank internet banking service. But it will cost you around $10 more expensive if you go to the branch and ask the staff to do it for you.  Well, $10 is quite expensive for me, considering that if you do it by yourself from internet banking, its $10 cheaper.

So I am trying to send some money to indonesia using the internet banking today, and then i found out they are asking about the bank swift code. For you guys who dont know what is bank swift code, The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (”SWIFT“) runs a worldwide network by which messages concerning financial transactions are exchanged among banks and other financial institutions. so its kind of bank id to make the transfer between overseas bank or other financial institution become faster.

Here’s some Bank Swift codes for some banks in indonesia.  ( This is just for information purpose, please reconfirm to your bank again to make sure its correct 100%)

Usually the swift code for the bank office in other branch or city is the same with the one used by the head office.
If you cant find your bank swift code above, then you can use this free online tools where you can use to search for the swift code of some financial institution. You can check it from here: Search for Swift code

    for Bank permata medan, the swift code is BBBAIDJ10SS , but i suggest you to confirm back to bank permata medan, because i’m not sure 100% as well. I get the swift code from here http://www.swift.com/biconline/index.cfm?fuseaction=display_freesearch

    As i know, BCA only have 1 swift code. I used to transfer to BCA surabaya’s branch, and i use “CENAIDJA” as the swiftcode. All transfer went through without any problem. My suggestion is to contact BCA medan directly, and confirm to them to make sure the correct swift code.

    pak solihin, IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number and is an initiative being driven by the European Commission and banks across Europe to introduce a standard account number format for use with cross border payments in Europe.

    SWIFT message is not cheap. Sending swift message can cost UP to $5000/message. As a matter of tight internal control, banks dont normally let their branches handle international messagings. It is prone to break-ins and damn expensive (yes, you can actually send just a casual emails over SWIFT network…imagine how much money is wasted if that occurs).

    So most banks only have 1 (or just a few) swift code(s) per country. These codes are controlled by their international banking divisions. It is this division’s job to “forward” the messages to the proper destinations.

    You right, some of the Bank, still need a swift Code, some don’t. I think a good Bank with a good skill employee do not need that because they could find the swift code. My experience.

    Is there anyway we can find sort code for banks in Indonesia ( usually contains 6 digit numeric only) ?

    I tried to pay my Indonesian HSBC Credit Card from My UK HSBC saving account, but there is no sort code on the credit card while it’s required by the bank.

    Any idea..?

    esthira, if i’m not wrong, each country have their own specification for sort code. Its kind of bank code actually.
    for example in australia, sort code is known as bsb.
    why dont you contact your bank directly to find it out?

    Is every Bangking in Indonesia have their IBAN Code and ABA/Routing Code? other than SWIFT Code? I like to transfer my salary from my overseas Bank to another Bank in Indonesia and got stuck with the IBAN Code and ABA/Routing Code which is mandatory to be fill in.     Di PayPal sudah bisa kirim uang ke Indo tapi butuh Bank Code yang 7 digit. Saya coba telpon ke HSBC mereka malah kasih SWIFT CODE. Aneh juga ya, masa orang bank sendiri gak ngerti bedanya SWIFT CODE ama BANK CODE? Ampe sekarang saya gak deptin tuh code. Ada yang tahu?

    Gandhi, The bank code might be the combination of Indonesian bankcode(3 digit)+branch code(4digits).
    You can find it using this site http://www.klikbca.com/corporate/sandi.html
    But once again, i’m not sure and i never used it by myself. So always confirm with the bank to make sure first.
