Surabaya.com sold for us$50000

I just read one news about selling and buying domain name business, and i’m quite surprise when i saw that surabaya.com was sold for us$50000. Surabaya is the name of city in east Java, Indonesia. And its the city where i grow up before i move to sydney , australia. I have no idea who is the owner and who bought it for that price, and what they gonna do with the domain name. I tried to search in google, but cant find more detail information there. the reason why this domain can be sold for us$5000 is maybe because this word “surabaya” means something else in other language, because i’m doubt if the buyer is indonesian, because us$50000 is pretty big money if you convert it to rupiah(indonesian money currency). Anyone got more detail about this?

Samsung Side by side Fridge SR538NP

SRS538NP fridgeLast weekend, I went to several big electronic shops such as myer, harvey norman, and bing lee to have a look at some fridge / refrigerator. I find out that they actually can give you as low as $300 price less then the retail price. So i recommend you to always ask for discount, because they do give discount most of the time if you ask, and especially if you pay by cash. For example, i was looking at the LG side by side refrigerator, i cant really remember what exactly is the model, but it looks very cool with stainless steel body. The Myer sales staff approach me while i was standing there in front of this cool LG fridge, then i ask him if there is any special price he can give me. The retail price is around $1800, and he said he can give me around $1500 plus delivery fee around $60. You see now what i mean by always ask if they can give you special price, because if you never ask, you will never know if you can save a couple thousands just by asking simple question.

Unfortunately, the LG side by side fridge is too big to fit in my new place, so i have to find other models which is smaller. The only manufacture which have around 85mm width is Samsung. This remind me to the book i read last year “blue ocean strategy” about adding a unique feature to your product to get rid the competition. And its exactly what Samsung do in this case. Because no other manufacture are playing in this 85mm width side by side fridge then that means No competition at all there. I’m pretty sure, Samsung sell  quite  a lot of this SRS538NP samsung fridge. Very smart idea indeed.

OK, back again to the samsung SRS538NP refrigerator, the retail price is au$1899, and after doing some research on internet, i find out actually there is one online shop selling appliances stuff cheaper compared to myer, harvey norman, or even bing lee. I have compared around 5 stuffs which i quote from the shop, and all the price at www.appliancesonline.com.au is still cheaper. Appliancesonline.com.au also offer free delivery if you live in NSW. the SRS 538NP Samsung fridge is sell for $1583 at appliancesonline, and as fas as i know, is the cheapest  price. I might order from the very soon, to try how is their service, and will post it again here once i get the fridge from them.

TPG or WestNet for my ADSL2+ connection?

A couple days ago i called  my ADSL Provider, Westnet customer support, to let them know that i would like to disconnect my adsl connection. Because by next month i will move out already to my new place. The price I pay at the moment for the ADSL is around $54.95/mth under Everyday Plan (512k/128k - 5GB peak /7GB offpeak), and i just checked my usage in average is less than 3GB/month. Not as much as i predict because i don’t really download movie or song from internet. Maybe i should find cheaper plan with lower bandwidth so i can save a bit  money there. The thing i want to mention here is actually, i’ve been with westnet for 3 years, and i’m very satisfied with their service. the only downside is the price is a bit more expensive compared to the others, and also i notice one thing after i called them to arrange  the disconnection of my ADSL by next month, i feel that my internet connection has been slowed down. I’m not sure 100%, but yesterday i tested to download 15mb file, and it took 5 minutes.

Once i move to new place, for sure i will sign up for the ADSL2+, not the ADSL anymore because the price is actually pretty much the same, but offering faster connection. I’m actually thinking about sign up with TPG ADSL2+ Medium/25GB plan, with download quaota of 25GB* (18GB peak+7GB offpeak), only cost $49.99/mth, it give me much more download quota compared to westnet $49.94/mth, only give 5gb peak/7gb offpeak. But i’m not really sure about the quality of TPG though. If any of you are using TPG, please  give me a bit feedback here or is there any better suggestion for ADSL2+ provider?

Convert my overseas driving licence to Australia Driving License

I have stayed in Sydney, Australia for almost 5 years now, but till now , i still don’t have Australian driving license yet. The reason is simple because i never thought i gonna need it. Because i live in sydney cbd, very close to bus station, train station, supermarket, and shopping places. So even if i got a car, i wont think i will drive it so often though. But i gonna move out soon to suburb, that’s why now i’m thinking to get my aussie driving license here. I heard if i still got overseas driving license, i can get the full license instead of the learner or P1 license if i pass the test. Luckily, i found my Indonesian Driving license, and its still not expired yet until January 2008.

rtaAfter reading some information on RTA ( Road and traffic authority) NSW  website, i went to RTA office in Wynyard this morning to confirm if i need to get translation for my indonesian driving licence.  They told me that i will need to get the translation and apparently only one place i can get the translation from, its from  the community relations commission for multicultural NSW . The office is located at Level 8 , 175 Castlereagh St Sydney. Because its not too far from the RTA office in Wynyard, i decided to go there as well at that time. When i got there, there are around 10 people are waiting, and  there are only 2 counter. It took me 1.5 hr waiting there. and cost me $65 for 2 weeks waiting time. They have 1 day service, but they charge $100. Because i don’t really need it urgently, so i just choose the $65. Once i got the translation, i will go to RTA again to apply for the test, and hopefully i can get full license soon.

APEC Security around Opera House

I wrote about APEC on my previous posting, and the meeting is finally finish by today. Even though there are a lot of  prime minister and president from other countries such as china, Canada , and also Indonesia , but all the media here are keep writing about George Bush. We even got public holiday on last friday, and some people call it not as APEC day, but as “Bush day”. Kind of  funny isn’t it.

Ok, i’m not gonna talk about APEC meeting here, but what i wanna show you guys is the inconvenience for resident around opera house (including myself) with all the blockage of the road, bus stop, and train station around circulay quay. I know it’s for security reason, but it just feel not fair for us as resident, transportation become not convenience for us, because i have to walk up to martin place every time to catch the bus. If you want to know how it looks like in bridge st, have a look at some photo i took on sunday. Luckily, APEC finish already and some of the road already been unblocked. Considering that the government use our tax money to pay for the APEC security, i personally not sure its worth it  or not though.
